Funeral services for Herman Schupbach were held Monday, April 9, 1990, at 1:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Herman William Schupbach, son of William and Anna (Friederich) Schupbach, was born June 8, 1912, in Marion Township, Clayton county near Elgin, Iowa. He died Saturday, April 7, 1990 in the Community Memorial Hospital at Postville, Iowa.
He received his education in the schools near Elgin.
On February 22, 1934 he was married to Helen Butikofer in the Methodist parsonage in Elgin, Iowa. They had 4 children. They made their home in Elgin until the spring of 1941 when they moved to Postville. He was a mechanic at Falb's Garage and later became the partner in the Postville Implement.
He is preceded in death by his wife on July 4, 1978; his parents; 3 brothers, Lewis, Reuben and Glen; a sister, Elizabeth, a granddaughter, Pam Semek and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Rogers.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Marlene Rogers of Greene, Iowa; Anna Semek of Hawkeye, Iowa; Dona of Postville; a son Richard of Brooklyn Center, MN; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, William "Bill" of Sun Lakes, AZ; Frederick "Fritz" of La Mesa, CA; Albert "Al" of Drayton Plains, MI; Gordon of Mason City, IA; and 3 sisters, Marguerite (Mrs. Ted Wedel) of Anaheim, CA; Marie (Mrs. Ray Wiethorn) of Monona and Anna (Mrs. Robert Sieleman) of Oelwein.
He has been referred to as the "Rembrandt of small engine repair" and will be remembered for his gardening and humor.
Casket Bearers: Dwight Rogers, Darren Rogers, Aaron Peck, Drew Rogers, Todd Peck and Rocky Samek.
Honorary Casket Bearers: Sam Harris, Jack Hager, Robert Converse, George Schupbach.
