Helen Schupbach

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 1978 at the Community Presbyterian church, Postville, for Helen M. Schupbach, who died at her home in Postville, July 4, 1978 following a lingering illness. The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated.

Born May 4, 1913, in Clayton county near Elgin, Iowa, Helen Marie was the daughter of John and Louisa Sutter Butikofer. She spent her early years in that vicinity and received her education in a rural school near Elgin.

February 22, 1934, she was married to Herman William Schupbach in the Methodist parsonage in Elgin. They made their home in Elgin until the spring of 1941 when they moved to Postville. Four children were born to this union.

Helen was baptized and became a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, April 2, 1953.

She worked in the lunch program at the Postville Community School beginning in 1956 and served for 20 years.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Herman; her four children: Mrs. Frank (Marlene Joy) Rogers of Greene; Mrs. Gene (Anna Louise) Samek, West Union; Mrs. Harold (Dona Rae) Peck, Postville and Richard Darold of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; also three brothers: Lawrence of Elgin; Lewis, Cedar Rapids and John, Elgin; five sisters: Mrs. William (Elsie) Torkelson, Mrs. George (Mildred) Schupbach, Mrs. Orlando (Eleanor) Loftsgard, Elgin; Mrs. James (Eunice) Schlee, Postville and Mrs. Lowell (Oma) Strong, Cedar Rapids. There are 19 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
