Mrs. LEVI (Sophia Speigler) SIRES 1881-1959

Mrs. Sophia Sires, who made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sires of Cedar Falls died on August 1, 1959 at Lakeland Memorial hospital at Minocque, Wisconsin of complications resulting from a stroke and pneumonia. She had been spending the summer with a daughter, Mrs. Henry Myer of Minocqua.

She was born Sophia Speigler, daughter of Barney and Mary Speigler in Allamakee County on February 17, 1881. In 1897 she was married at Waukon to Levi Sires. She moved to Waterloo following his death in 1936 and lived there until two years ago. She is survived by four sons, Floyd of Cedar Falls, Vern of Denver, Colorado, Marvin of Waterloo, and John of Algona; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Myer of Minocqua, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Herbert Houck of Independence; four sisters, two brothers, 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sires was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church of Waterloo. Funeral Services were held in the Schutte Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4, at 2:00. Burial was held in the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating.
