Clinton Elmer Smith 1905-1993

Clinton Elmer Smith, son of Ira E. and Jennie (Smith) Smith, was born June 20, 1905, near a small rural community called Myron, north of Postville. He died Sunday, March 14, 1993 in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville. He was 87.

He was baptized in the spring of 1916 in the Bethel United Brethren Church, rural Postville. Clinton attended the Myron School and graduated from Postville High School in 1925. On Sept. 19, 1930 he married Helga Marie Martens at Caledonia, Minn. They had one daughter, Kay. They lived on a farm near the Yellow River and in 1948 moved to their present farm north of Postville.

Clinton was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, a 50-year member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, and Chairman of the Northeast Iowa Dairy Corporation for eight years. In 1971 Clinton received the Iowa Master Pork Producer Award.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Mariah (Dresser) Smith; his wife; a brother, Lester Smith and two sisters, Pearl Price and Ethelyn Smith. Surviving are his daughter Kay and her husband, Arnold Gunderson, one grandson and a great granddaughter.

Funeral services for Clinton E. Smith were held Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Janice Schultz was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
