Mrs. WESLEY (Emma Karoline Timmerman) BECHTEL SNITKER 1913-1998
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Snitker were held Wednesday, December 2, 1998, at 11:00 a.m. in the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church at Frankville, Iowa. The Rev. James Walker officiated. Marian Laterman was the organist and Karla Johnson was the soloist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon, Iowa.
Emma Karoline Bechtel Snitker, the daughter of William and Minnie (Witt) Timmerman, was born May 25, 1913, in Allamakee County, near Monona, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, November 29, 1998 in the Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital at La Crosse, Wisconsin. She had reached the age of 85 years, six months, and four days. She attended the country school near her home. On September 27, 1934, she was married to Martin Bechtel at the Salem United Church of Christ near Waukon. To this union three children were born. They lived west of Frankville for a time. Martin died in 1945. Emma had also lived near Monona and in Waukon. On September 17, 1965 Emma was married to Wesley Snitker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed the large family gatherings. Emma loved to dance and to listen to music.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Martin and Wesley, two sisters, Anne Ferguson and Selda Topel, eight brothers, Henry, Fred, Grover, Harry, Herman, Willis, Theodore, and Frank Timmerman, and two stepchildren, Janet Snitker Larson and Gorman Snitker.
Surviving are her children, Lucille and her husband, Donald Burr, of Cresco, IA and Evelyn and her husband, Donald Gray, of Waukon, IA, and Roger Bechtel and his wife, Ellen of Postville; 11 step-children, Gary Snitker and wife, Nancy, of Cody, WY; Gale Snitker and wife, Janie, of Belle, MO; Grant Snitker and wife, Sharon, of Waukon, IA; Judy and husband, Fred Barnhouse of Marion, IA; Kathy Vaupel of Allentown, PA; Karen and husband, Floyd Ashbacher of Decorah, IA; Sandy and husband Leon Felke of Decorah, IA; Karla Eldridge of Marion, IA; Greg Snitker and wife, Mary of Albuquerque, NM; Patty and husband, Rick Hughes of Postville, IA; Gordon Snitker and wife, Julie of Decorah, IA; ten grandchildren, Richard, David, Larry, Jerry, Donna, and Danny Burr, Lance and Hollie Gray, Stacy Bechtel and Erin Keehner; three great grandchildren, Katie Burr, Corey Bechtel, and Kayla Keehner, many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel (Verni) Kruse, of Monona, IA.
Casket bearers were Richard Burr, David Burr, Larry Burr, Jerry Burr, Donna Burr, Danny Burr, Lance Gray, Stacy Bechtel, Hollie Gray and Erin Keehner.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Frankville Community Presbyterian Church, rural Postville, by the Rev. James Walker. Burial: Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, and one hour before service time Wednesday at the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Burr of Cresco and Evelyn Gray of Waukon; a son, Roger Bechtel of Postville; 11 stepchildren, Gary Snitker of Cody, Wyo., Gayle Snitker of Belle, Mo., Grant Snitker of Waukon, Greg Snitker of Albuquerque, N.M., Gordon Snitker, Karen Ashbacher and Sandy Felke, all of Decorah, Judy Barnhouse and Karla Eldridge, both of Marion, Kathy Vaupel of Allentown, Pa., and Patty Hughes of Postville; and a sister Mabel Kruse of Monona.
