Mrs. ARTHUR (Nina E. Harris) SWENSON 1878-1967

Nina E. Swenson was born the daughter of George W. and Ellen Laughlin Harris on July 3, 1878 in Allamakee county, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, January 13, 1967, in the Community Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years, six months, and 11 days.

She was a member of the United Brethren Church. Until most recent years she was active in church work and belonged to the Ladies Aid of the Forest Mills Church and the Community Presbyterian Church of Postville. Mrs. Swenson spent the early years of her life on her parents farm and attended the rural school in Post township.

On the 24th of November, 1898, she was united in marriage to Arthur William Swenson at the home of her parents. The newly-weds rented a farm in Ludlow township, residing there for a year and a half. They then purchased the farm six miles east of Postville where they contined to reside. To this union were born three sons, Hall of Postville; Roland of Park Ridge, Illinois, George of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two daughters, Doris (deceased) and Florence (Mrs. Elrie Ruckdaschel) of Postville.

After her husband passed away on January 11, 1965, Mrs. Swenson remained on the homestead until she suffered a severe fall in her home and was admitted to the Community Memorial Hospital on February 11, 1966.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Doris; three brothers, Warnie, Gerald, and Roger; and two sisters, Hazel and Mabel.

Surving are one daughter, Florence (Mrs. Elrie Ruckdaschel) and three sons, Hall, Roland, and George. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Swenson had 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Comminity Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Tuesday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. Burial was in the Minert Cemetery.
