Services Held For Alvin Monroe

Funeral services for Alvin C. Monroe, Postville, were held Monday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiated.

Alvin Clark Monroe, son of Albert Clark and Mari (Land) Monroe, was born August 30, 1921 in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County. He died October 26.

He received his education in the country schools at Elkader, then at Castalia and finished his schooling at Beulah Falls in Froelich.

On September 9, 1943, he was married to Shirley Sebastian. Two children were born to them: Carolyn and Diane.

He served in the U. S. Navy as an aviation metalsmith from 1942 until 1945. After being discharged he worked for Art Linderbaum in his garage at Ossian for one year. Then he farmed near Castalia until 1954 when he started to work for Home Oil Company. In 1955 they moved to Postville.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Carolyn and Diane, who live at home; six brothers, Bernald, Luana; Curtis Calmar; Forrest, St. Olaf; Carroll, Warrensburg, Mo.; Fielden (Fritz), Fredericksburg; and Virgil, Ossian; three sisters, Mrs. Glen (Bernita) Heins, Luana; Mrs. Mack (Rose Marie) McCulloch, St. Louis, Mo. and Mrs. Marlene Schissell, Prairie du Chien, Wis.

He was a 27 year member of the American Legion.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
