Services Held For Mrs. A. Jones

Funeral services were held from the Schutte Funeral chapel, at 2:00 p.m. Monday for Mrs. Arthur A. Jones, 83, who passed away Saturday, December 6. Rev. Hilmer of the Methodist Church of Monona was in charge of the final rites. Burial was at Smithfield cemetery in Franklin township.

Nancy Bell McShane was born in Franklin township, Allamakee county, on March 11, 1869 and passed away December 6, 1952; aged 83 years, eight months, and 24 days.

She was the daughter of Cornelius and Margaret Durr-McShane, the twelfth child in a family of 13 children. She was the last member of this family. She was a descendant of a long line of American pioneers of which the first family settled in New England in 1636. Her own parents settled in Allamakee county in the early 1850's. She was born and lived in Franklin township of this county most of her life.

In early girlhood she became a member of the Volney Methodist Church. She received her early education in the rural schools of Franklin township and later attended secondary school in Waukon. For several years she taught schools both in Cerro Gordo and Allamakee counties.

She was a member of the Clinton (Iowa) chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was married November 13, 1895, to Arthur A. Jones who survives her. To them were born six children, five of whom survive: Nellie, of Clinton; Mrs. Lyal (Lottie) Whittenbaugh of Wadena; Charlie S. of Franklin township, on the home farm; Mrs. Robert (Ethel) Whittenbaugh of Wadena; and Stella of Postville. One daughter, Mildred, died in infancy. There are also four grandchildren, Stella; John; Robert, Jr.; and Nancy Whittenbaugh; all of Wadena.
