Gertrude Jahnke

Funeral services were held for Gertrude Ella Jahnke Tuesday, December 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Gertrude Ella Jahnke, daughter of Carl and Anna (Ehde) Luebka, was born March 15, 1910 in Allamakee County near Postville. She died Sunday, December 29, 1985 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

She was baptized April 26, 1910 and confirmed September 2, 1923 both at St. Paul Lutheran church. She attended the West Grove School near her home.

On June 15, 1932 she was married to Lester Jahnke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. They had 3 sons.

They began farming on her family farm and then moved to a farm north of Postville. In 1957 they moved to town where she had been employed at the Palm Cafe, then at the Douglass Pharmacy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jimmie in 1952, and three sisters, Amanda (Mrs. Alvin Gruel), Ruby (Mrs. Albert Grotegut) and Adeline (Mrs. Edwin Grotegut).

Surviving are her husband, Lester, 2 sons, Leslie and his wife Lillian, of Postville and Ronald and his wife, Marilyn, of Spring Grove, MN, 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Casket bearers were David Jahnke, Bradley Jahnke, Mark Jahnke, Darrell Jahnke, Wayne Jahnke, Lyle Jahnke, Gary Jahnke and Gregg Jahnke.
