Waukon, Ia., Dec 12 - Funeral services were held at the Mount Hope Presbyterian church Friday afternoon for Alfred E. Beardmore, life-long resident of Allamakee county, who died Tuesday night at his home in Union City. He was born in Birmingham, England, in 1853. He is survived by three sons and one daughter. Burial was made in Mount Hope cemetery.

Alfred E. Beardmore, son of Wm. and Sarah Beardmore, was born in Birmingham, England, June 9, 1853. He departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1930, at the age of 77 years and six months.

During the year of his birth he came to America with his parents and settled in Wheeling, West Virginia. Here he lived till the age of 12 years, at which time his parents moved to Iowa, settling in Union City township. In this locality he grew to manhood under the environment of pioneer life, and here he passed to his eternal reward.

Throughout his long life all who knew him conceded and recognized that he possessed outstanding characteristics such as straightforwardness and honesty in business, high moral standards, enterprising perseverance and industry and labored always with a purpose in view. He exercised that good judgment which yielded him the success he sought.

Mr. Beardmore has been a member of the Mount Hope Presbyterian church for nearly 55 years, and has always been a consistent and loyal supporter of its labors.

In 1882 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Jane Bulman, daughter of Thomas and Phoebe Bulman. To this union were born four sons and one daughter, one son, Arthur, passing away in infancy. His faithful wife and helpmate passed away April 13, 1923.

There remain to mourn the loss of the best of fathers and a wise counsellor, [sic] Thomas A., John E. and Daisy at home, and Earl who is residing on an adjoining farm. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Alfred A., Helen E., Glenn E., and Myrtle Mae, also the brothers, namely, Lynn, John F., and James H. together with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Fri. Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Hope Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. J. H. Barr of New Albin and Rev. A. C. Prust of Dorchester M. E. church. The music was furnished by the New Albin male quartette [sic] of the M. E. church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery. Six nephews of the deceased acted as pall bearers, namely, Leonard and Gene Bulman, Eben and Arthur Beardmore, Urban Sadler and Allen Hartley.
