Waukon- Funeral services for Mrs. Charles J. Hale, 79, were to be held Thursday at Martin's Funeral home in Waukon, the Rev. H. Myron Braun officiating.

Mrs. Hale was born Anna Jane Smith Nov. 26 in French Creek township, daughter of her pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Smith. While teaching school in Waukon she met and later married Charles Hale in Lansing Aug. 2, 1906. Hale was associated with his father in the mercantile business. Following his death in 1934, his three sons, Dudley of Oelwein, Nathan and John of Waukon, have perpetuated the firm name of Hale and Sons.

Besides the sons named, a daughter also survives, Mrs. Gerald Steva, Waukon; another daughter, Marcia, died in infancy. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. George Smith, Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. Charles Magnusson, Waukon; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Hale was a member of the Methodist church, the Thursday Literary Club and the Eastern Star, with members of the latter group attending the rites in a body.
