Albert Preston, son of John P. and Elizabeth Segrist Gilson, was born in Post township, Allamakee county, Iowa, March 16, 1889, and died suddenly at his home in Waukon March 12, 1961, just four days before his 72nd birthday. A year ago last October he suffered a stroke from which he never completely recovered.

He lived his entire life in Allamakee county, getting his formal education in Evergreen rural school and being a longtime member of the Volney Methodist church. On August 2, 1911, he was married to Minnie L. Winters and they went to farming on the Philip Gordanier farm in Post township. They then farmed in Linton township, near Volney, for 33 years before moving to Waukon 13 years ago. For many years he was an active member of the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters in infancy and two sisters in adulthood: Lucy (Mrs. Seward Swenson) and Dot (Mrs. Anton Kolden or Koldon). Surviving to mourn are his wife at the home in Waukon; five daughters, Frances (Mrs. Fred Miene) of Luana, Lois (Mrs. Gaylord Moose) of Monona, Geneva (Mrs. Laraldo Wahls) of Postville, Alice (Mrs. Francis Rooney) of Steuben, Wis., and Hazel (Mrs. George Beisker) of Monona; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, John and Orie of Waukon, and Fred of Des Moines; one sister, Reva Steiber of Waukon; one aunt, Mrs. Lucy Roffman of Waukon; one uncle, Peter Perman of Garber; many more distant relatives; and a great number of friends.
