Postville Review, Fri., 23 Mar. 1917.

Old Postville friends will be sorry to learn of the death of John Floegel, who passed away at the County Home, near Waukon, Wednesday of last week in his 87th year and was buried in Lycurgus. Years ago John ran a meat market in Postville, but the tide of adversity turned against him and his property dwindled away. As long as he was able to work he supported himself at various occupations, but about seven years ago his infirmities rendered him unable to perform further labor, and a broken hearted old man, penniless and without kin, was taken to the County Home in an auto by A. E. Cornell, at that time proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, who was his last employer. The girls about the hotel were kind to John and when he bid them good bye he thanked them warmly for their attention to him, and advised them to lay up some of their wages every week, so that when they got to old to work they would not be compelled to take the trip he was then about to make. And, if we mistake not, several of the girls took his advice and started bank accounts.
