Waukon- Services were held Monday for Mrs. Julia Whalen, 93, who died Thursday. Burial was at Lycurgus.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary's Church, Lycurgus, for Mrs. Julia Whalen, 94, who died at her home near Lycurgus Thursday evening. She had been bedridden for a few months.

She was the mother of the Rev. James Whalen who died in 1929.

The Solemn Requiem Mass was offered by the pastor, the Rev. Francis Bradshaw. He was assisted by the Rev. Edward Keating, Solon, a relative of the deceased, and the Rev. Charles La Barge, Dubuque. Father Bradshaw preached the sermon.

Burial was in the Lycurgus cemetery.

Mrs. Whalen was the former Julia Regan. She was born May 17, 1885, on a farm in Center township. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Regan, early settlers of that vicinity.

Her marriage to Patrick Whalen took place at St. Mary's Church, Lycurgus, July 19, 1876. The couple had nine children. For over 73 years Mrs. Whalen made her home on the farm where she died. She was one of the few remaining pioneer settlers of Allamakee County.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. P.J. McCauley, Waukon; and four sons, Charles and William, Lycurgus; Frank, Waukon; and Peter, New Albin; a sister, Mrs. Devillo Holmes, Lansing; and a brother, Peter J. Regan, Great Falls, Mont. There are 27 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
