Thomas "Tom"" Ryan, 50, of Washburn, died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center of heart failure. Services will be Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be held an hour before services at the church. Tom was born January 17, 1953, in Waukon, the son of Matthew and Ruby Thiele Ryan. He married Mary E. Linn on August 5, 1972, in Waukon. He graduated from Wauk-on High School and Upper Iowa University. Tom was employed with Johnson Diversey and he and his wife owned DCTM Industrial Services. Since 1994, he was head coach for the St. Mary-I.C.-St. Joseph-St. Athanasius Junior High football program. Survivors include his wife; his father, Matthew Ryan of Waukon; a son, John Ryan of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Marne Ryan of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Avery and Madison Walker; three brothers, Jeff (Julie) Ryan of Ankeny; Scott (Debbie) Ryan of Hutchinson, Minn., and Rick (Shimene) Ryan of Kenosha, Wis.; two sisters, Lisa (Scott) McFall of Springfield, Mo., and Beth (John) Ravis of Yukon, Okla., and a special friend, Cousin, Lady Branham of Elmhurst, Ill. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas, and his mother. Memorials, may be made to Immaculate Conception. Catholic Church or Don Bosco High School.
