DEATH OF FORMER LANSING BUSINESS MAN
Mrs. Albert Olson received a letter Saturday, informing her of the death of her relative, John Johnson, at Hudson, Wis., at 8:30 o'clock a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, following an extended illness, but being confined to bed only a week. His funeral took place at Hudson on Saturday.

Deceased was aged about 88 years and was born in Sweden, coming to America with his parents when quite young. After working at different farm jobs, he came to Lansing and was employed in the Herman Schierholz grocery store, then located in the present post office building. Later in partnership with Herman Haas, another employee then bought out Mr. Schierholz and continued the business. Afterwards Mr. Johnson purchased Mr. Haas' interest and continued the business alone until he left Lansing more than 35 years ago. The family then went to Minneapolis, where they lived for some years; then moving to Hudson, where Mr. Johnson was manager of a large co-operative store until his retirement about ten years ago.

About June 15, 1880, Mr. Johnson was married to Miss Mary Olson, at her old home in Center township. She survives him with four children, as follows: Oscar, of Duluth, Minn., now on a trip to California and not back for the funeral; Roscoe, Havre, Montana; Mrs. George Trieb (Mabel), and Mrs. Melvin Gilbertson (Alvina), both of Hudson. One child died in infancy, and Mr. Johnson's two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death—making him the last of the family.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were back to Lansing at the last Homecoming, when many old friends were glad to meet them, and who will now read of his passing with sincere sorrow.

Mr. Johnson was an upright and honest business man, and during his years in Lansing formed a wide acquaintanceship, and although gone from here these many years, doubtless many of our older readers will remember his kindly companionship, and join this paper in extending sympathy to his bereaved family.
