Martha Jane Dresser was born April 28, 1830 near Meredith, New Hampshire to Alvey Chase and Delcina (Kingsley) Chase. She died at her home in Postville, Iowa on February 6, 1905. Martha Jane came west in the fall of 1862 with her family. She married Hiram Dresser on April 5, 1863 at Postville, Iowa. Two daughters were born to them, Lucy A. Dresser died at the age 19 months old and Caroline "Carrie" Mae Dresser, now married to Edwin Blaisell Carbee. In her early life she united with the Baptist Church and her daily life exemplified the Christian spirit. She was buried in the Postville Cemetery.
