From the Postville Iowa newspaper:

Mrs. Jennie Marston, Pioneer Mother, Passes

Jennie Carithers, oldest daughter of William and Elizabeth Carithers, was born in Post Township, near the little village of Myron, on April 25th, 1853, and died on May 19, 1933, aged eighty years and twenty four days. She belonged to one of the pioneer families of this part of the foundry, as the father and mother were among the very early settlers here.

As a girl, she received her early education in the pioneer district school. Later she finished her preparations for her chosen work of teaching in a private school in Waukon. She taught in several of the early county schools of this county and in Clayton county. Her teaching was always a source of satisfaction to her, and she was always numbered many of her former pupils among her most loyal friends.

On September 6, 1885, she was married to Arthur F. Marston, of another pioneer family, thus uniting two of this community's pioneer families. They lived in Postville, where Mr. Marston was engaged in business, until the spring of 1890, when they moved onto the farm which has since been her home. She enjoyed visits in the homes of her children at various times but always returned with pleasure to the old home, happy to be back among the friends of earlier days and the former associations.

To Mr. and Mrs. Marston were born five children, Mrs. Vera Fitzsimmons of Pomeroy, Wash.; Violet Elizabeth, Euclid C. of Postville; Jay Allison of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Daisy Tague of Postville. She was preceded in death by her husband in the fall of 1917, her daughter Violet in 1918, and her daughter-in-law Marie (Danner) Marston in 1932. Besides her four children and ten grandchildren, she is survived by only one other immediate relative, Ralph Bachtell.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the family home, and a 2:30 at the community church with Dr. Galloway officiating. Dr. Galloway and Mrs. Glessner Webster sag "Rock of Ages" and "Abide by Me".

The pall bearers were John Waters, E.P. Durno, Warner Harris, Loney Folsom, Mort Deering, and Frank Bollman. Those who had charge of the flowers were Josephine Durno, Mrs. S. C. Bailey, Mrs. May Douglass, and Mrs. Flora Franklin.

Interment was made in the family plot in Postville cemetery.
