Waukon, Ia. - Military funeral services for Claus Gran, 82, veteran of the Spanish American War, who died at the Veterans' Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., were held Thursday morning at the Old West Paint Creek Church. The Rev. E.O. Baalsom, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery, with full military honors. Members of the Spanish American War Veterans' group and of the American Legion and their auxiliary, attended.
Mr. Gran was born in Norway, June 7, 1862, and came to Allamakee County when a young man. On June 21, 1898, he volunteered for service in the Spanish-American War, at Portland, Ore., and became a member of the Co. M., Second Regiment of the U.S. Engineers. He was honorably discharged in April, 1899, after which he resided on a farm near Waukon. Three years ago he and Mrs. Gran moved to Waterville. His wife survives.
