Waukon-- Eloise Inglis Hale, 93, died Wed., 18 Dec. 1996, in Good Samaritan Center, Postville. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon. Burial: Oakland Cemetery.

Eloise Jennings Inglis was born 30 Apr. 1903 in Wyoming, Iowa, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Jennings Inglis. She was baptized and confirmed at the Wyoming Presbyterian Church; graduated from Wyoming High School in 1920. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and graduated in 1924. She taught school in Wyoming for two years before attending Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill., graduating in 1931. She worked as a private duty nurse before marriage and continued to work as a nurse for Dr. Jeffries in Waukon for several years after her marriage.

Oct. 16, 1934, Eloise married Nathan Colegrove Hale in Dubuque. They moved to Waukon and resided in the Hale family home, now Martin Funeral Home. "Nate" was a longtime businessman in Waukon, owning Hale's Store and later joining the Waukon State Bank as a vice president until his retirement in 1965. "Nate" passed away in 1982.

In 1953, Eloise and "Nate" built a home in Ludlow Township, Allamakee Co., called "Halewood", where she resided until 1991. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in its ladies organizations. She was also a member of Thursday Club and remained a proud alumnus of Coe College.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" and husband Dr. Bill Withers of Waukon; and four grandchildren; Bill Nate Withers (Linda) and children Andrew and Emma; James Hale Withers (Jennifer) and children Cole and Zachary; Elizabeth Jane Wilhelm (Chris) and children Nicole, Catherine and Laura; and John Rodger Withers.

Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister Elizabeth "Bess" Jeffries.
