HEIM, ERDING, JOHNSTON

Waukon, Ia. - Sgt. John Heim, 30, wounded in action in France on July 4, died of his wounds on the following day, according to a War Department message received Monday evening by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Heim, Sr., Fairview Township, Allamakee County.

The parents on July 23 received a message informing them that their son was seriously wounded on July 4, and no further word was heard until Monday's message.

Sgt. Heim entered service on Jan. 8, 1941, and was overseas 18 months. He took part in the African campaign, following which, in December, he was returned to England. He next saw action on D-Day in France.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Edward, Jr., at home and two sisters, Mrs. Firman Erding, at home, and Mrs. Leo Johnston, in Fairview Township.

Waukon, Ia. - Memorial services for John F. Heim, 30, who died July 5 of wounds received the day previously, while in action with the American Tank Corps, in France, were held at St. Pius' Church, Cherry Mound, Tuesday morning.

The requiem mass was celebrated by the Rev. Albert H. Nees, pastor. Members of the American Legion were in attendance, and sounded taps at the close of the services.

Heim was among the first Allamakee County men to volunteer for service, enlisting in January, 1941. He saw action in France on D-Day.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Heim; a brother, Edward, Jr., at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Firman Erding and Mrs. Leo Johnston.

Chris wrote: "... thought maybe one of his relatives would want to know another Heim spent a few moments thanking their father, brother and son. Maybe it could be shared for the genealogy of their brave John."
