Lansing, Ia., June 15 - August Smedrud, a rural mail carrier here, was instantly killed Monday evening. The young man was returning from his route and was reading a paper when he dropped his lines and they fell over the dashboard. In reaching after them Mr. Smedrud lost his balance and fell directly under the horses' heels. He was kicked in the head and the wagon passed over his neck, breaking it. Death was instantaneous. The team ran away and attracted attention and a search was instituted for the young man. He was found in the road dead. The body was removed to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Smedrud.
