Don Kelleher 1935-2003

Don Kelleher, age 68, of Lansing, died Friday, August 15, 2003, at his home in Lansing following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, August 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing was in charge of arrangements. Don was born April 13, 1935, in Lansing, to Thomas and Catherine (Strub) Kelleher. He graduated from St. George High School in 1953. After school, Don served in the military. On June 11, 1960, he married Mary Kay Steinhart in Hanover, Iowa. After his marriage, Don worked as a pipe insulator and was a member of the Insulators' Union #81 of Cedar Rapids. He later farmed from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. He and Mary Kay owned and operated Cornerstone Bar in Lansing from 1978 to 1984. He founded Kelleher Construction in the mid-1980s, which his son operates today. During retirement, Don enjoyed gardening and his annual trips to Branson, Mo.
The family would like to express their thanks to Prairie Hospice and Dr. Witte of the Gundersen Clinic in LaCrosse for their assistance in helping care for Don. Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay of Lansing; four children, Kelly (Roger) Reed of Milton, Wis., Rick (Renee) Kelleher of Lansing, Donna (Louie Bernabei) Kelleher of Janesville, Wis., and Deb (Rick) Huhn of Janesville; four grandchildren; and three siblings, Ruth Ann Masterson of Janesville, Patricia (Dick) Delany of Chatfield, Minn., and Bob Kelleher of Denver, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Casketbearers were Steve Heim, Dennis Sickels, Dennis Manning, Dave Hawes, Dan Delaney, and Gene Peters.
