Luella V. Gibbs, 95, of Waukon, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, Iowa. Funeral services were held Monday, January 24 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Luella Val Smith was born November 26, 1909, in rural Volney, Iowa, the daughter of Ernie and Sylvia (Huffman) Smith. She attended the rural Cherry Valley School and graduated from Postville High School. Following school she worked for a neighboring family, at a cafe in McGregor, and as a waitress in Mason City. She returned to Allamakee County before moving to Minneapolis where she worked in a dress shop from 1942 until 1950.
On October 15, 1950, Luella married Myron Francis Gibbs in Tomah, Wis. They stayed in Tomah until 1953 when they moved to Minneapolis where Luella did small soldering work at Honeywell Industries for a number of years. In 1970 they moved to Waukon. The past seven years Luella has been a resident of Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing.
Luella and Myron enjoyed traveling and visited all parts of the United States. She loved to spend time shopping and going to sales, and was an avid collector of antiques.Survivors include a step-daughter, Lorraine Alcott of Tomah, Wis.; three sisters, Gretta Keepers of Waupun, Wis., and Jean Pufahl and Lorayne Gallagher, both of Waukon; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Myron, who died in 1993; a sister, Mavis Anderson; and two brothers, Ora and Marcus Smith.
Casketbearers were Doug Anderson, Neil Becker, Reggie and Craig Adam, Steve Stock, and Tom Tierney.
