Obituary from the Waukon newspaper Aug. 1899

Bauercamper--At his home in Waukon, Allamakee Co., IA, September 2, 1899 of tuberculosis. Carl Bauercamper: aged 74 years 2 months and 15 days.

Deceased was born at Amthorn, Germany, June 18, 1825. In September 1856 he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Dreves: two years later they came to America, settling at Freeport, IL. May 10, 1861, with his family moving to Iowa, locating on a farm in Ludlow township, this county, where they remained until '96 when Mr. Bauercamper with his wife and young members of his family moved into Waukon. Ten children were born, 9 (Mrs. A. F. Velte and Mrs. Herman Sanderman, of Lexington, Neb.; Mrs. F. G. Lemma, of Sherrill's Mound, Iowa; Mrs. Aug. Pieper, of Ludlow; Mrs. Henry Ludeking and Miss Carrie, of this city; C. A. Bauercamper, of Omaha, Neb.; Julius and David, of Ludlow.) survive, with the mother, to hallow the memory of a good husband and kind father. One son - John- died in August, 1877. Mr. Bauercamper was one of the organizers of the German Presbyterian Church in Ludlow Township, and through all the years of his residence there and in town took delight in it's services, aiding by his counsel, presence and substance in the furtherance of it's work. For some time past he has been in failing health but it was not until recently that his condition became alarming. His throat became affected and in a short time he could not partake of solid food without great distress in the effort of swallowing. Later, the disease work it's way through the thorax and whatever nourishment he took passed into the windpipe and choked him. From this suffering he was released by death early Saturday morning. The funeral occurred at the church in Ludlow, Sunday afternoon. Rev. ?? conducting an impressive service in the presence of a large congregation of old time neighbors and friends to mark their respect for the departed and sympathy with the bereaved family.
