She grew to womanhood in her native country and was married to Mr. Frederick Portner, with whom, in the year 1854, she emigrated to America, the family landing at Lansing (IA) July 4th of that year. Mr. Portner passed away November 2, 1862, and three years later was married to Mr. Charles Pieper. Mr. and Mrs. Pieper remained residents of the country until 1887, when they moved to town, Mr. Pieper dying the following year, since which time Mrs. Pieper has made her home with her children. The five children who remain to mourn her death are Mrs. Minnie Schafer, Shaler, Iowa, Mrs. Caroline Snitker, Ludlow, August, Ludlow, Mrs. Mary Winter, Ludlow, and Mrs. Lizzie Fisher, Lexington, Neb, and one brother, Fred Stock of Ludlow.
