Elgin Echo, Thur., 5 March 1903.
Pat Manning of Postville, was killed and terribly mangled by a C. M. & St. P. freight train in the suburbs of that city, Thursday. His body was found at a cattle guard literally cut to pieces. A train of 30 cars had passed over him. His heart, liver and intestines were found on the track - his head on one side and his body and parts of limbs on the other side of the track. As he had been to Castalia it is supposed he was stealing a ride home - perhaps on the bumpers - and fell between the cars.
