Helen Thimmesch

Helen Mary Thimmesch, 102, New Albin, Iowa, died Monday, September 16, 2013, at her home. She was born August 30, 1911 at home in Houston County, Minnesota to John and Elizabeth (Heiler) Adrnt. Helen was the eighth child and sole survivor of twelve children. She was baptized and confirmed at Crooked Creek Church in Freeburg Valley, Minnesota. She attended school through the eighth grade in a one room school house near Niglam Road in Houston County, Minnesota.

Helen was united in marriage with Henry H. Thimmesch in November of 1929. Three children were born to this union, Goldie, Bob and Leo. They lived in Freeburg, Minnesota until 1931, and after a flood they moved to New Albin, Iowa. Helen was a homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin and the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, especially her flower gardens and embroidery.

Helen is survived by her children, Goldie M. Zeimet of New Albin and Bob Thimmesch of Waukon; daughter-in-law, Ann Thimmesch of Topeka, Kansas; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thimmesch in July of 1979; her son, Leo Thimmesch; her parents; her granddaughter, Leonette Zeimet; her great-grandson, Charles Frederick Baker III; a daughter-in-law, Donna Mae Thimmesch; a son-in-law, Tom Zeimet; four brothers and seven sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, September 20, 2013 from 3 -7 p.m. with a rosary at 3 p.m. at the New Albin Community Center, New Albin, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Saturday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant.

Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Albin, Iowa. There will be a luncheon at the New Albin Community Center following the burial.

Thornburg – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
