Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing on Friday morning at nine o'clock for Frank Gander whose death was briefly mentioned last week. He has been in failing health since suffering a severe heart attack on Christmas Eve but was allowed home after several weeks and seemed slowly improving. Another spell the week before last proved fatal and his death was a great shock to family and friends.

He was born October 4th, 1897, a son of Catherine Strub and Joseph Gander and one of several children. He attended the school of the community southwest of town and on May 8th, 1922 was married to Kathryn Rouster of New Albin in St. Joseph's Church there by the late Fr. L. Hayes. They farmed in Allamakee until about 18 years ago when they moved to town where he has since owned and operated the Lansing Locker plant and in the front of the business a first class grocery. Besides his wife he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. LaVerne (Lavina) Harvey, Milwaukee; Mrs. Robert (Irene) O'Neill, Waukon; Mrs. Verdayne (Marcella) Lee, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Robert (Darlene) Russett, Waterloo; Mrs. Keith (Patricia) Garin, Lansing; two sons, William of Rochester, Minn. and Earl of Dorchester. Other survivors include 3 brothers, Herman of Kellogg, Minn.; Arnold, West Point and Leonard, on the home farm; two sisters, Mrs. Ernie Van Brocklin, Lansing and Mrs. Lloyd Ruroden, Decorah, and twenty grandchildren. Preceding him in death besides his parents was one brother, Herbert.

Mr. Gander was an industrious and ingenuous worker from his early youth, indulgent to family and friends and devoted to his church. He was a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters and the high esteem in which he was held was proven by the throng of people who came to extend sympathy to the bereaved family. Business places of town closed during his funeral services.

The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry Scharphoff offered the Mass of Requiem and serving as active casket bearers were Al Hefty, Cyril Garin, Francis Keller, Robert Maust, Sr., Clarence Spinner and Harold Troendle. Honorary pall bearers from the Rosary Society were Thomas Kerndy, Leo Krieger, Vic Johnson, Hugo Fritz, Cletus Weipert and and Frank Wagner. Honorary pall bearers from the Foresters were George Ferring, Joseph Troendle, Aloysius Becker, Norbert Aschom, Kenneth Wagner and Francis Walleser.
