HIGGINS, CAUGHLIN, STEVENS, MEYER, GRAN, RYAN

The many friends of Dennis Higgins. 68, were grieved to learn of his death which occurred at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse,a t 2:30 Friday morning, May 28, 1943, following a lingering illness. The end came peacefully for this fine man, the Angel of Death severing the threads of life as a fitting reward for a long and noble Christian life.

Deceased was born in Houston county, Minn., Sept. 17, 1874, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Higgins, Sr.

Mr. Higgins came to Allamakee county in 1900, and on November 22, 1904, he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with Miss Agnes E. Caughlin, in New Albin, where the new home was established. he was engaged in the garage business here for many years, retiring in 1939.

A loving a devoted husband and father, and a kind neighbor, he will be greatly missed by all. His place in the home, in the church, and in the hearts of the people will long be vacant. Being of a sunny and friendly nature, he made friends of all his acquaintances. His honest and upright character yielded a power for good in his community upon which a shadow has fallen now that his presences has been withdrawn.

He reared an admirable and loyal family of children who were at all times solicitous for their father's happiness and comfort.

Mr. Higgins was a devout member of the Catholic church and died fortified by its last rites. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a director of the local Electric Light and Power Company.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and four children, Mrs. D.W. Stevens, Cassville, Wis.; Wilfred L. Higgins, St. Could, Minn.; Pfc. Raymond B. Higgins, Camp Haan, Calif.; and Miss Angela of Camp Wolters, Texas;l and the following sisters and brothers; J.J. Higgins, Mrs. E.J. Meyer, Miss Rachel, Mrs. P. Gran. New Albin; Mrs. D. Ryan, Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Andrew Higgins of Caledonia, Minn.; also two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Joseph church with the Rev. L. Hayes, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing. Casket bearers were John Rouster, Peter Hosch, D.J. Kelley, Frank Morgan, George Hammell and John W. Kelly.

The stores were closed here during the services.

Dolan, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Higgins, Caledonia; Mr. and Mrs. Tim Quillin, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Twite, Brownsville; Miss Rosemary Quillin, Mrs. C. Bledsoe, Mr. Merlin Higgins and daughter Patricia, Miss Delores Meyer, La Crosse; Miss Meta Fritz, Waukon; Attorney Virgil Meyer, Chariton, Is.; Mrs. D. Ryan, Prairie du Chien; Miss Kathleen Binek, Wabasha, Minn.
