Postville Review, Saturday, 26 May 1877. In a letter from the papers Lansing correspondent dated 20 May 1877.
The year 1777 was one of sorrow and general misfortune. The year 1877, with us, at least, so far, has been one of calamity and suffering. Fires, accidents and sudden deaths have followed each other in rapid succession. Our excellent Mayor had scarcely been laid to rest when Mrs. Kans fell dead without a moments warning, and now sleeps beneath the "cold, cold ground". The funeral was conducted by the German "Sangferein" in an appropriate manner, and was largely attended by all nationalities.

NOTE: Her surname looks like Kans, but could also be Hans or Rans.
