Hiram Dresser was born Feb. 26, 1837, at Barnston, Quebec. During infancy, with his parents he moved to Woodstock, Ohio, where they resided for about 17 years and in 1855 came to Iowa, making the journey by team. April 5th, 1863, Hiram Dresser was married to Martha Chase, and to this union two daughters were born, one of whom died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 6, 1905. June 23rd of the same year he moved to Alberta, Canada, where he spent the remaining years with his daughter, Mrs. E. B. Carbee. In 1906 he came back to Iowa and spent about a month visiting relatives and friends. Mr. Dresser was in usual good health until about two weeks before his death when he contracted a cold that developed later into pneumonia, and he passed away Thursday, July 21st. He was one of a family of five children, ? of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. E. B. Carbee, and a grandson, Edwin Carbee.

Mr. Dresser was for many years a resident of Postville, an honest, upright, frugal man and good citizen, and those that knew him will hear of his demise with regret.

The funeral was held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Schuette in this city at ten o'clock Thursday morning last, Rev. J. A. Saathoff officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

In the obituary for Hiram Dresser, it stated he was one of a family of five. Hiram was actually one of 12 children and 5 siblings had preceded him in death.

Hiram Dresser was the son of Calvin and Sarah (Hawkins) Dresser. Calvin Dresser was also born at Barnston, Stanstead County, Province of Quebec, Canada in 1813. The Dresser family left Canada and moved to Woodstock, Ohio in 1838.

Hiram married Martha Jane Chase, daughter of Alvey and Delcina (Kingsley) Chase in Postville, Iowa. Martha was born April 28, 1830. Hiram and Martha became the parents of 2 children:

1. Lucy A. Dresser - born February 12, 1864 Postville, Iowa died September 12, 1865 Postville, Iowa

2. Caroline "Carrie" Mae Dresser - born 1866 Postville, Iowa died December 17, 1950 Alberta, Canada. Caroline married Edwin Blaisell Carbee. Carrie and her husband are both buried at the Daysland Cemetery in Alberta, Canada.
