Susan S. Smith died July 25th, 1921, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ira E. Smith, aged 83 years, three months and 26 days, death being caused from a paralytic stroke suffered July 19, 1921.
Susan S. Lee was born at Batavia, New York, March 31st, 1838. She came to Decorah, Iowa, when she married John N. Smith, June 24th, 1855. Soon after they moved to a farm in Allamakee county. To this union eight children were born, seven of whom have gone before. Her husband died June 19th, 1895.
She is survived by her daughter, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Lee of Decorah; and a half-sister, Carrie Hislop (Hislon ?) of Idaho.
Since her husband's death she has made her home with her children.
She was an earnest, consistent member of Bethel U.B. church for about 45 years. She was a good woman and Christian.

The funeral was held in the Bethel church at 11 a.m. July 28, conducted by Rev. H. A. Hayes. Interment in Minert cemetery.
Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Yarwood, Harold and Lloyd Yarwood, Mrs. Ernest Yarwood and Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Bar??oot, all of Decorah.

Mrs. Susan B. Smith
Thursday, July 28, 1921, Mrs. Susan S. Smith, 84, mother [in-law] of Ira E. Smith, passed away Tuesday and funeral services were held at Bethel U. B. Church.
-note: Susan (Lee) Smith was wife of John N. Smith. Their daughter Jennie M. Smith was married to Ira E. Smith, who was the grandson of Reuben Smith of the Old Stone House fame. Ira E. was the son of David and Marene (Barham) Smith. -
