Waukon, Ia. - Funeral services for Ernest Smith, 56, farmer of Franklin township, who died Monday at the Lutheran hospital, La Crosse, Wis., following a long illness, will be held Thursday or Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church here. The Rev. August H. Grossheim, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.

He was born March 2, 1889, on a farm in Franklin township, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Smith. He was a farmer all his life, with the exception of a few years when he served as deputy sheriff of Allamakee county.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Sylvia Huffman, Rossville; two sons, Marcus, who was recently discharged from the Navy and arrived home Monday, and Ora, of Waukon; five daughters, Mrs. Richard Barron, and Lorraine and Mavis, all at home, Mrs. Jack Keepers, Watertown, Wis., and Mrs. Paul Pufahl, of near Rossville; his mother, Mrs. Ora Smith, Monona, Ia.; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Addie Miekle, Monona. He was preceded by his father, who died in 1942, and twin sisters.
