Julia Emma Hooper was born December 14, 1849, at London, England, and died at Marquette, Iowa, March 19, 1922, aged 73 years, three months and five days.
At the age of five years she came to this country with her parents and spent her girlhood at West Union.
At Frankville, on July 3, 1870, she was married to Noble E. Wells, and to this union were born ten children, the eldest of whom, W. E. Wells, passed away at Postville, Dec. 8, 1877.
In 1889 Mr. Wells moved his family from Postville to Marquette.
July 3, 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Wells observed their golden wedding surrounded by their children, grandchildren and friends, who were so glad to be present to congratulate this worthy couple on this noteworthy anniversary.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Well leaves the following children to mourn the passing of a mother in every true sense of the word: Mrs. L. P. Brenner, Minneapolis; M. H. Wells, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Mrs. C. A. Bratsburg and Mrs. G. H. Tanner of Miles City, Mont.; and F. V. Wells, R. B. Wells, N. E. Wells, Jr., and Hazel Wells, all of Marquette. There are also seven grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice M. Rogers of White Lake, S.D.; and three brothers - W. H. Hooper of Spokane, Wash; George Hooper of Casper, Wyo.; and C. W. Hooper, of Selby, S.D.
The funeral services were conducted at the family residence Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. H. A. Crumb, assisted by the M. E. choir. The pall bearers were the five sons of the deceased. The floral tributes were numerous and very beautiful. The remains were taken to Postville on the afternoon train for interment, Rev. Crumb delivered a short service at the grave.
