Caroline Machemer was born in Burke's Co., Pennsylvania, June 28, 1838, and departed this life March 21, 1922, at Postville, Iowa. She was married April 1, 1859, to A. B. Cook, who preceded her in death June 7, 1920. Mrs. Cook is survived by five children - Mrs. Flora Franklin of Postville, who cared for her mother tenderly during her last long illness; J. A. Cook of Keller, Washington; Mrs. Myrta McGhee of Dubuque; Perry E. Cook and Mrs. Gwen Campbell of Postville. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also two sisters and two brothers living in southern Michigan also survive her.
On the 8th day of April 1854, she was confirmed in the German Reformed church. Later in life she joined the United Brethren church of Bethel. Iowa.
Mrs. Cook was of a quiet, home loving disposition and her greatest happiness lay in being a good mother and an efficient homemaker. The passing of her long and useful life leaves a void which no one else can fill.
The funeral was held from the home last Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. A. Saathoff. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
