Mrs. Bertha Overburg, 67, beloved wife of Rasmus Overburg, died at her residence, 1506 Peosta street, at 12:15 Wednesday morning, October 10, 1945, after an extended illness.

The body is resting at the Haudenshield funeral home, 2170 Central , where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev. A.F. Frankhauser, pastor of the First Evangelical church, officiating. Burial will in the Rockdale Methodist cemetery.

Born in Waukon, Ia., Feb. 15, 1878, she had lived in Dubuque since 1918. She was a member of St. Luke's Methodist church.

Survivors besides her husband include five children, Mrs. Elma Synovetz, Mrs. Helen Preston, and Leslie Vanderbilt, all of Dubuque; and Harvey and Clyde Vanderbilt, Guttenberg; six sisters, Mrs. Jane Heslip and Mrs. Rose Mellen, La Crosse, Wis.; Mrs. Mary Shulke, Mrs. Mathilda Feldt, and Mrs. Martha Dohse, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and Mrs. Francis Hires, Wauekza, Wis.; four brothers, Joseph Hires, Dubuque, Charles Hires, Viroqua, Wis., Henry Phillips, St. Charles, Minn., and Albert Hires, Lancaster, Wis., and five grandchildren.

~Note: interestingly, the 1925 Iowa State census gives her parents as Louis Naff & Bessie (illegible). Earlier census records indicate that she may have had a previous marriage to Milferd or Wilferd Vanderbilt.
