Carl Senholz was born March 19, 1830, at Di__n_w, Hanover, Germany, and emigrated to this country in 1856, settling first at Garnavillo. November 18, 1859, he was united in marriage to Anna Barbara Beck, who preceded him in death Sept. 4, 1912. To this union were born seven children, one son, Fred, having died in 1887. From Garnavillo he moved to Grand Meadow township, where he resided for 16 years, and in 1892 came to Postville, where he has resided continuously since, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. W. C. Thoma, after the death of his wife.
After a pilgrimage of 89 years, 9 months and 25 days he departed this life at three o'clock a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 1920. In his death St. Paul's Lutheran church loses one of its oldest and most faithful members.
He leaves to mourn his loss: Mrs. Henry Garms, Charles City; Mrs. Chris Salzgeber, Postville; Geo. Senholz, Griswold; Mrs. Henry L. Meyer, Castalia; Mrs. W. C. Thoma and G__ Senholz, Postville; also twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon last, conducted by Rev. E. Schmidt. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
