Postville Herald, Fri., 23 Jan. 1920.

Peter Miller was born in Wiesweiler, Rhine Privince, Germany, November 3, 1856. When 17 years old he came with his uncle to the U.S., stopping at Danville, Kentucky. Soon after, he went to Columbus, Ohio, where he learned the baker's trade. Having determined to see more of the country of his choice, he went to New Orleans, LA, where he worked at his trade for a time. In 1878 he came to Chicago, traveling by foot all the way.

In 1878 he came to Postville, Iowa, where he, together with his brother, opened a bakery, to which they later added a restaurant. The same year he was united in marriage to Albertina Kamin, of Chicago, and after purchasing his brother's share in the business he and his wife conducted the bakery and restaurant successfully until the year 1890, when he sold out his business and went to his childhood home in Germany for a visit with his parents.

After his return he and his wife toured the western states in search of a new location, but finally concluded that Iowa was the best place after all, and after spending a short time at Frankville, Iowa, they again went into the bakery and restaurant business in Nashua, Iowa, where they remained five years. Then after engaging in the same business at Victor, Iowa, for about two years, he moved to Grand View, Iowa, where he started a general merchandise store, which he continued to operate for nearly twenty years. In August 1919 he was forced, by ill health, to dispose of his business and to retire from active life, which he did, and in October of the same year he moved to Wheaton, Ill., where he died after a lingering illness on January 14, 1920, at the age of 63 years.

Those who are left to mourn his loss are his wife, two daughters, two brothers and a host of friends, for he was known and loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at Wheaton, Ill.,after which the body was brought to Postville, Iowa for interment, Rev. L. W. Wiltberger having charge of the services here.
