John Davis, youngest son of John and Mary Davis, was born November 8, 1867, on the farm near Springfield school, south of Postville, Iowa, and passed away at his farm home, east of Postville, in Post township, on Thursday, June 18, 1931, his demise following injuries received in a fall from the hay mow in his barn on the Monday previous.

On January 17, 1892, he married Florence Simpson, and they established their home on the farm east of Postville, where they have lived ever since, with the exception of three years, 1905 to 1908, spent in Postville.

In boyhood Mr. Davis joined the Bethel United Brethren church where he retained membership until a few years ago, when he became a member of the Community Presbyterian church of Postville.

For nearly twenty-five years he was a member of the Postville Odd Fellows Lodge and was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife and their four children, Ralph of Minneapolis; Mrs. Hazel Hill of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Myrtle Hall and Harry, of Postville; and by two grandchildren, Jean and Donald Davis; and by two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Donaldson and Mrs. Millie Johnson, both of Los Angeles, Calif.

John Davis was a true and upright man, beloved in his home and respected and honored in his community. The sympathy of a host of friends is extended to his bereaved family.

The funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at two-thirty from the Community Presbyterian church in this city, Rev. R.F. Galloway officiating, and was largely attended. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful.

Upwards of forty members of Postville Lodge No. 707, I.O.O.F., attended the funeral in a body and had charge of the burial service at Grand Meadow cemetery, where interment was made.
