Postville Herald, 4 Feb. 1937.

At 7:25 o'clock on Saturday evening, January 30, 1937, Charles Freitag, a life-long resident of this city and community, passed away at the Postville Community hospital, where he had been a patient for the past two months, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and three days.

Carl Heinrich Freitag, son of John and Catherine Freitag, was born on February 27, 1860, on the farm now owned by Mrs. Anna Schultz, south of Postville.

As a young man Charlie attended and graduated from the Bayless Business College at Dubuque. At about this time a hunting accident necessitated the amputation of his left arm. This misfortune, however, did not discourage him and he faced the future bravely. Later he accepted the position as pumper for the Milwaukee railroad at Postville and did his work faithfully and well, and became a forty-year veteran of the C. M. St. P. & P. railway, from which he was retired on pension.

After the death of his parents he made his home for many years with his sister, Mrs. Minnie Schultz.

Last fall he entered the Odd Fellows Home at Mason City, and it was while in Postville while on a leave of absence from the home that he was stricken with his final illness.

He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Minnie Schultz, of Luana; two brothers, Henry Freitag of Postville and John Freitag of Burlington, North Dakota, besides several nephews, two nieces and many friends.

In his early years Charlie was a genial and affable fellow and made many friends, all of whom will learn of his passing with sorrow and sympathize sincerely with those bereft.

Funeral services were held from the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville on Tuesday afternoon, February 2nd, Dr. R. B. Garten officiating. Interment was made in Postville cemetery, the commitment service being in charge of Postville Lodge No. 707, I.O.O.F., of which deceased was an old and honored member.
