Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday for Sidney R. Swanson, 69, widely known Morning Sun farmer. He died Friday in Burlington hospital following a brief illness. Officiating at final rites, held in the First United Presbyterian church was the Rev. Edward Fish. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery.

Sidney Russell Swanson was the son of Elmer E. and Sophia Anderson Swanson and was born in Louisa county on January 21, 1893. On April 29, 1927 he was married at Victory, Iowa to Nellie Carey. She died in 1955 and he married Verna Bartheld at Morning Sun on December 27, 1957.

Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Rosalie Thomas of Indianapolis, Ind.; two (sic) brothers, Glenn, Winfield and Ralph, Mediapolis; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Biggerstaff, Morning Sun and Mrs. Vera Wilson, Albia. Also surviving is one grandson.

~Note: His second wife was Verna A. (Gruber) Bartheld. She was b. Lansing, IA and died in 1981. She is buried with her 1st husband in Oak Hill cemetery, Lansing.
