KARMAUS, KAMOUS, MADAUS, REINHARDT, WALTER, SHEPPERD

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home in this city for Henry Karmaus who passed away last Tuesday. The Rev. F.R. Ludwig officiated at the service and interment was in Grand Meadow cemetery.

Mr. Karmaus was born in Langendorf, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, on September 29, 1866, and at the age of 30 years came to this country with his wife and two children, settling in the Postville community, which had been his home since.

He was married in 1888 to Caroline Dorothy Madaus, who passed away May 3, 1902. They had three children.

On June 19, 1909, Mr. Karmaus was married to Mrs. Augusta Reinhardt and in the same year the couple moved to the farm northwest of Postville which was his home since.

Mr. Karmaus is survived by his wife and two children, Henry Karmaus of West Union and Mrs. Guy Walter of near Elkader. One daughter, Alvenia Anna Marie Shepperd, passed away in April, 1941. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Two of his grandsons are in the service, one in India and one in England.
