The Minert records from 'Woodmansee' don't record this burial. Although all of the Swenson's buried in Minert cemetery are related, I have no Samuel Swenson in my records. Also, there are no Samuel Swenson's found in Allamakee county in any Iowa State census year, and none in any of the U.S. Census, Allamakee co. for any year.

I'm fairly certain this death notice is for the man born Swen Oleson, father of Evan, John, Anton, Seward & Bertha Swenson. He is also my ggg-grandfather. On the 1880 US census he is living with his son John, with name Swen Oleson. The last documented record I have for him is the 1885 Iowa State census, where he is named as Swen Swenson, age 80, living with John Swenson & family in Post twp. If he was age 80, that would put his birth year 1805. This census was done in April of 1885.

John Swenson's obit (1891) says he was survived by a wife, one son, three brothers and one sister. It doesn't mention a father, and you'd think it would since Swen had lived with John. The 1895 Iowa State census does not list the elder Swen Oleson/Swenson.

Any further info. or input regarding my conclusions is appreciated. ferrall@mtaonline.net
