Funeral services for Amy Stirk, 86, West Union, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union. Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. Interment was at the West Union Cemetery. Burnham and Wood Funeral Home, West Union was in charge of arrangements.
Amy passed away on Saturday morning, Dec. 23, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union after an extended illness.
Amy E. Miller Stirk was born Sept. 6, 1909, near Postville, to Henry and Minnie (Kohrs) Miller. Amy lived on the farm with her parents and attended Postville High school where she was a star basketball player, playing the position of forward and being a leader in scoring for the team. She graduated from Postville in 1928.
Amy married Eldon Stirk Oct. 13, 1934 in Postville. After being married Eldon and Amy lived in West Union until 1941 when they moved to Rockford, Ill. Amy held various jobs, she worked at Palms Drugstore in Postville, and worked at the five and dime in West Union before moving to Rockford. She managed the lunch counter at Woolworth's store in Rockford for 30 years.
Amy was a member of P.W. and the Bank Club. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon; one brother, Cloy Miller.
Amy is survived by a nephew and niece and numerous cousins.
