Funeral services for Lawrence Stadtmiller were held Tuesday, November 24, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Gary Catterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Lawrence William Stadtmiller, the son of Edward and Celia (Mortiz) Stadtmiller, was born October 26, 1912, in Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa. He passed away Friday, November 20, 1998, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He had reached the age of 86 years and 24 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. He attended the Luana Consolidated School.

On November 9, 1940, Lawrence was married to Georgean Koenig in the Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. To this union 2 sons were born, Donald and Gene. The couple farmed on the family farm southwest of Luana until 1964 when they moved to their present home in Postville. Lawrence enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in May of 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Georgean, 2 sons, Don (JoAnn) of Longmont, Colorado and Gene (Mary Lou) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Senta (Christopher) Andre of Lyons, Colorado, Shela Stadtmiller of Thornton, Colorado and Paul Stadtmiller and his fiancee, Rebecca Himes of Marion, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren, Charles Strong and Lauryn Andre; a twin sister, Florence Johnson of Saginaw, Michigan, a niece, 3 nephews, cousins and many friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother, Gilbert Stadtmiller, one sister, Irene Krueger,and a niece, Karen Voss.

Lawrence was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville'. Casket bearers were R. Jack Hager, Robert Enyart, Leslie Jahnke, Harlan Welzel, Gene Voss and Oliver Doerring. Honorary casket bearers were Robert "Bertie" Waters, Harry Landt, Leon Everman, Paul Welzel, Howard Dickson, Merle Lange, Sam Curnow and Alexandre J. Pougatch.
