Postville Review, Fri., 3 Nov. 1905. (condensed).

MRS. P. A. HUMPHREYS IS DEAD. Well Known Landlady of Postville House Passes Away.

On Wednesday afternoon, November 1st, 1905, at a little past three o'clock, Mrs. P. A. Humphreys, the well known and highly respected landlady of the Postville House, and widow of the late Hiram S. Humphreys, passed peacefully away at her home in this city after a several weeks illness from dropsy, in her 64th year.

Phila A. Haines was born in Morgan Co., Ohio, June 26, 1842. She was married Aug. 5, 1860, to Hiram S. Humphreys, who died in 1903. She has resided in Postville since 1875. For 19 years she has been landlady of the Postville House, and upon the death of her husband succeeded to the management thereof, filling both positions in a most admirable manner. She made her hotel a home to all who sought food or shelter there, and many of the traveling public and patrons of this hotelery will grieve that she is no more. She united with the Postville M.E. church March 9, 1864, and has remained a devout christian and follower of the lowly Nazarine until life's end.

She is survived by six children - Alfred, of Minneapolis; Mrs. J. B. Hart, of Postville; Levi, of Cedar Rapids; Hiram, of Owatonna, Minn.; Jesse, of Hartford, S.D.; and Earle, at home,- all of whom are here to attend the last rites, and a brother, W. W. Haines, of Jennings, Oklahoma, who is unable to be present.

Mrs. Humphreys was of that class of mothers and women of which the world stands sore in need of today. She thought not of self, but lavished her love and devotion upon the dear ones God had entrusted to her care. She numbered friends by her acquaintances and her heart beat in sympathy with all mankind.

The funeral will be held from the home tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. W. Robinson. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
