Frances Sebastian

Frances Sebastian, 84, of Charles City died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, with Pastor Dennis Nieszwaag officiating. Interment was held at Sunnyside Memorial Gardens.

Frances was born August 9, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Alta (Briggs) Bogges in Chickasaw County. She was united in marriage to Wayne Linn on January 19, 1935 in Galena, IL. They had 2 wonderful children, Doris Toebe and William Linn. Thirty-five years later, Wayne Linn passed away.

Frances would later marry Wayne Canny, who died 6 months later due to illness. On January 11, 1975, she was united in marriage to Harlan Sebastian at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in the Postville area up till the time of his illness. Frances and Harlan then moved back to Charles City where she was employed as a cook by the Charles City School District.

Frances loved spending quality time with her family. Her childhood was filled with the sounds of siblings for she had 6 sisters and 4 brothers. It became a tradition that the whole family would gather at grandma's for Sunday dinner. After playing games they would go home with full bellies and wonderful memories that will be cherished forever. Her face would light up when she and Harlan would go South for the winters. She knew that she would get Harlan to go dancing. Her heart was always looking out for others, making afghans for those she cared for so deeply. Christmas for Frances was everyday by being graced with the smiles of her loved ones and the yarn that they would bring. If she wasn't playing games or making afghans she could be found in the kitchen baking her famous pies and cookies.

Frances will be greatly missed by her 2 children, Doris Toebe and her husband Dean of Charles City, and William L. Linn and his wife Darlene of Charles City; 2 step-children with the late Wayne Canny, Joyce and Sandy; one sister, Edna Ashley of Charles City; several nieces and nephews; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, 3 husbands, 5 sisters, and 4 brothers.
