Rites Held for Kathy Shepherd

Peace and rest came to Mabel Kathleen Shepherd on April 28 after suffering from the affliction of cancer for the past seven years. She passed away at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse after being a patient in the intensive care unit for the past three months.

Born in Lansing, she was the only daughter of Joseph and Frances Lankford Coughlin and had just passed her 33rd birthday on April 2. She grew up and attended schools in Lansing and New Albin and graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1965, having moved there with her family a year or two previously.

Following her high school education she attended and was graduated from the La Crosse School of Cosmetology and practiced her profession in that city.

On April 20, 1968 she was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Shepherd of Lansing. The vows were spoken at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral in La Crosse.

Their home was made in Lincoln, Nebraska for several years. For the past three years they lived in Poplar Grove, Ill. They were in the process of moving back to Lansing when Kathy was taken ill in January.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband Larry, one son, Alan, 10, and one daughter, Erin, 8; her father, Joseph Coughlin, La Crosse; brothers Patrick of Lansing and Dennis of La Crosse and their families; her maternal grandmother, Sfa Lankford of Lansing, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, her maternal grandfather and her mother's brother, Alan Lankford.

Memorial services were held for Kathy on April 30 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, Fr. Carl Manternach officiating, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were John Verdon, Gary Galema, Robert Henkel, Robert Kious, Damon and Dennis Shepherd.

Wis.; Miss Janette Larson, Stevens Point, Wis.; Mrs. De Elda Larson, Antigo, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. John Verdon and sons, Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Verdon of Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. John Strong and sons; Mabel Meyer and Connie Terry, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. John Hisel, Mayville, Wis.; Misses Gladys and Bernice Coughlin, Wauwatosa, Wis.; Mrs. Charles Hogan, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coughlin, Hokah, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Coughlin, and Joseph Coughlin, La Crosse, Wis.; Gloria Schoenneman and son David, Chicago. Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Greg Venner of Gays Mills, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Shepherd, Genoa. Wis.; and Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Turk of La Crosse. Wis.
