Ella (Wiemerslage) Wuennecke 1899-1980

Mrs. Ella Wuennecke, 81, of New Albin, died on Friday, March 21, in La Crosse Lutheran Hospital. She was born on February 25, 1899 in Allamakee county to William and Emma (Stehr) Wiemerslage. She married John Wuennecke on November 22, 1923 at St. John’s United Church of Christ near New Albin, of which she was a lifelong member. The Wuenneckes farmed in rural New Albin until 1969 and moved to town after retiring.

Survivors are two sons, Armin and Edgar, both of New Albin; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and two brothers, John and Leo Wiemerslage of New Albin.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975 and by two brothers. Services were held on Tuesday, March. 25, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Richard Waters officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Potter-Haugen Funeral Home of Caledonia was in charge of arrangements. The pallbearers were Carl Vonderohe, Owen Thorson, Earl Benson, Joel Sires, Bernard Dougherty and Howard Fitzpatrick.

Out of town friends and relatives attending the funeral of Mrs. Ella Wuennecke were Rev. Walter Fischer of Henderson, Minn., Rev. C. Kent Wever and Philip of Graettinger, Iowa, Mrs. Alvin Dierksen and Mr. and Mrs. John Matthies of Faribault, Minn., Mrs. Linden Spears and Herman Kurk of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Deters of Verdi, Minn., Ella Mae Evans of Ward, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wiemerslage and Mrs. Lydia DeBuhr of Decorah, and Mr. and Mrs. Armin Schuttemeier of Spring Grove; Minnesota.
